The SUNY Oneonta softball team defeated Brockport, 9-2, in the second game of today's SUNYAC doubleheader to earn a split with the Golden Eagles. The Red Dragons were shutout in the opener 4-0. The split for Oneonta (20-13/9-5 SUNYAC) moved them closer to a conference tournament berth with two doubleheaders remaining in the regular season next weekend at home against Cortland and Oswego.

After being no-hit in game 1, the Red Dragon bats came alive in game 2 banging out 12 hits including a pair of home runs. Senior
Jamie Whittam (Saugerties/Saugerties) connected on her fifth of the year in the third inning while
Dana DelGenio (New Hartford/New Hartford) hit her second round-tripper in the seventh inning. Both were two-run shots.

Whittam finished the game 3-for-3 with four runs scored and four RBIs. Junior
Marlene Cuevas (Wappingers Falls/Roy C. Ketcham) and sophomore
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington) added a pair of hits each.

Amanda Graziano (Riverhead/Riverhead) went the distance striking out five to earn her eighth win of the season.

In action yesterday at SUNY Geneseo, the Red Dragons dropped both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 7-5. The loss in the opening game snapped Oneonta's 11-game win streak.

In the second game, the Red Dragons led 5-3 entering the home half of the sixth before the Blue Knights pushed across four runs to grab its lead. Despite getting two baserunners on in the final inning, Oneonta couldn't bring them around.

Jennifer Brocco (Kingston/Kingston) each had two hits in the nightcap while DelGenio drove in three runs.

In the opening game of the twinbill, the Red Dragons fell behind early 5-0 and then made a valiant comeback only to fall short in the end. Brocco clubbed a solo home run in the fifth inning. Classmate
Katie O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) collected two of Oneonta's six hits in the game.

Oneonta will host Rensselaer this coming Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
