Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse defeats Hartwick 16-9

Senior Connor Coyle scores four goals to lead Red Dragons

Senior Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields) notched four goals and added a pair of assists, as the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team defeated city rival Hartwick College 16-9.  The win for the Oneonta (4-3) snapped a mini two-game skid while the loss for the Hawks dropped them to 2-5 overall.

Freshman Matt Miles (North Massapequa/Plainedge) got Oneonta off and running with his first two goals of his collegiate career.  Coyle followed Miles' pair with two of his own, as the Red Dragons jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first six minutes of the game.

The Hawks ended the run on a goal by Chris Vandemark at the 6:53 mark before freshman James Kickel (South Setauket/Ward Melville) scored his first collegiate goal to give Oneonta a 5-1 lead.

Sam Ferguson brought the Hawks one-goal closer with a goal at the 1:15 mark, as the opening quarter ended with the Red Dragons leading 5-2.

Five different players scored in the second quarter for Oneonta, as they took a 10-4 lead into halftime.  Miles and Kickel were joined by senior Daniel King (Hauppauge/Hauppauge) and sophomores Nathan Doody (Tully/Tully) and Nick Schuman (Webster/Webster Thomas) as goal scorers.

The Hawks held the Red Dragons to a single goal in the third quarter, but only added two themselves.  Oneonta still led 11-6 entering the final quarter.

In the fourth, Coyle and Doody each scored a pair of goals to lead Oneonta to another five-goal period.  One of Coyle's goals was a man-up tally.

Senior Ryan Adler (Smithtown/Smithtown West) made seven saves in 57 minutes of action to pick up his fourth win of the season.  Hartwick starter Connor O'Brien took the loss playing the first half and allowed 10 goals.

Oneonta will be at Potsdam this Saturday to take on the Bears in the SUNYAC opener for both teams.
