Box Score 4 The SUNY Oneonta softball team completed its season opening trip south today, as the Red Dragons played its final game in the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, GA. Oneonta came away with a 1-4 record that included games against the No. 1, 10 and 13 teams in the country.

Oneonta's (6-5) lone win of the tournament came in its opener against No. 13 Illinois Wesleyan in a slugfest 10-9. The Red Dragons spotted IWU four runs before scoring six runs in the final three innings to overtake them.

Oneonta collected nine hits in the game including three each by sophomores
Ashley Lefebvre (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon) and
Cori McFall (Pleasant Valley/Arlington). McFall hit a two-out single in the top of the seventh to drive in a pair of runs that put Oneonta ahead 10-9.

Junior
Jennifer Brocco (Kingston/Kingston) also hit a three-run home run to account for Oneonta's three runs in the top of the sixth inning that pulled the Red Dragons to within one run at 9-8.

Freshman catcher,
Selena Ruiz (Westbury/W.T. Clarke), collected a pair of hits while driving in two runs to contribute to the offense.

Kate Wood (Suffern/Suffern) pitched 3-2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win for Oneonta.

Oneonta was shutout in back-to-back games by No. 10 Berry College (9-0) and No. 1 Texas-Tyler (11-0). Oneonta managed only five hits combined in the two losses.

After being re-bracketed, Oneonta found itself in the Bronze Bracket and faced Eastern Connecticut State. The Warriors scored a single run in the seventh and then held off a rally by Oneonta enroute to a 4-3 win. The big hit in the game was a two-run homer in the fourth inning by junior
Katie O'Gorman (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa).

In today's final game, Oneonta was downed by Methodist, 2-1, in eight innings.

Oneonta is scheduled to play Muhlenberg next Saturday on the road in its first games back up north. The Red Dragons faced the Mules during its Florida swing and defeated them, 13-2, in five innings.
