Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse wins defensive battle at McDaniel 4-3

The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team ended its weeklong trip to Maryland today with a close, 4-3, victory against host McDaniel College.  The win for the Red Dragons moved them to 2-1 on the young season.

Both goalies turned in solid performances and kept the game from getting out of hand. Senior Ryan Adler (Smithtown/Smithtown West) made 15 saves for Oneonta while his counterpart, Eric Ritchie, made 12 stops.

The hosts held a 41-35 advantage in shots for the game, but Oneonta's Troy Stasko (Smithtown/Comsewogue) helped the Red Dragons win 7-of-10 face-offs.  Oneonta also was good on 20-of-21 clear attempts.  Neither team converted on an extra man situation, as they were a combined 0-for-12.

Four different players scored for Oneonta today.  Senior Robert Neubert (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem East) gave the Red Dragons a 1-0 lead at the 6:51 mark of the opening period.  Classmate Connor Coyle (Centerport/Harborfields) scored the first of the second period off an assist by Daniel King (Hauppauge/Hauppauge).

Oneonta's final two goals were the only goals scored in the third period, as the Red Dragons opened up a two-goal cushion at 4-2 entering the fourth.  Senior Taylor Kalbacher (Syosset/Syosset) and sophomore Hunter DeLuca (Medford/Patchogue Medford) both scored unassisted goals.

McDaniel (1-4) made the game interesting with a goal at the 3:48 mark of the final period.

Oneonta was called for a cross check penalty with 59 seconds left in the game, which gave the Green Terror a man-up opportunity.  They did manage to get off a pair of shots during the extra man, but Adler came up with both saves.

Oneonta will be off until next Saturday when they host Wells College in its home opener on Red Dragon Field.  The game is scheduled for a 1pm faceoff.
