Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Price reaches 1,000 points; Women's basketball pulls out win against Brockport

The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team clamped down defensively in the fourth period en route to a come-from-behind 47-42 victory tonight against Brockport in SUNYAC action.  Oneonta (16-6/12-3 SUNYAC) outscored the Golden Eagles 15-4 in the final 10 minutes including the final five points of the game to secure the key conference win.  The win for Oneonta kept them on pace with New Paltz at the top of the standings, as the Hawks defeated Geneseo tonight.

Despite shooting 26 percent overall, the Red Dragons made seven shots from behind the arc including one that tied the game at 42 apiece by junior Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and one by freshman Madeline Frank (Syracuse/Jamesville-Dewitt) that put them ahead for good at 45-42.  Adams led all scorers tonight with 14 points.

Oneonta trailed in the game for 35 minutes before the three by Frank.  Frank finished the game with seven points and team high 10 rebounds.

The Red Dragons began the fourth period with six unanswered points to cut its deficit to two points.  A layup by senior Bryn Loomis (Norwich/Norwich) capped the run that made the score 38-36 with 5:45 remaining.  The Red Dragons only allowed two baskets over the final five minutes.

In addition to the come-from-behind effort, senior Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) became the eighth woman in program history to reach 1,000 points.  Price buried a three-pointer in third quarter to give her 1,001 points.  As Price winds down a tremendous career for the Red Dragons, she continues to climb towards the top in many statistical categories.  Price finished the game with 12 points.

The Golden Eagles shot 50 percent in the first half, as they built themselves a 24-19 lead heading into halftime.  Brockport turned the ball over 13 times, which Oneonta turned into 11 points to stay close despite shooting 22 percent from the floor.

Senior Olivia Suhr led the Golden Eagles with 13 points.

Oneonta will play its final regular season home game tomorrow versus Geneseo beginning at 2pm.
