The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team dropped a second round match of the SUNYAC tournament to New Paltz (3-0) to end the season at an even 16-16. The Hawks will face host Brockport in the conference championship match tomorrow. Â The Golden Eagles of Brockport beat Geneseo to advance to the championship.
The Red Dragons jumped out in front of the Hawks early in the first set taking a 12-5 lead forcing New Paltz to call a timeout to regroup. The Hawks then chipped away at the Oneonta lead until they tied the set 18-18 before going on to win the opening set 25-22. The Red Dragons dropped the next set by the same score 25-22, before finally bowing out in the third set 25-12.
For the Red Dragons, senior
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 14 assists and four aces, which led the team. Freshman
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) had 15 digs, and junior
Sara Feldman (Smithtown/Smithtown East) led the team in kills with eight. Senior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) had 14 digs, three assists and two blocks.
