Men's basketball runs past Cobleskill 94-73

Senior Mikey McElroy records double-double to lead Red Dragons

The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team scored the first 10 points of the game and never looked back, as they ran past SUNY Cobleskill 94-73 tonight in the opening game of the Holiday Inn Tipoff at Hartwick College.  The Red Dragons shot 55 percent from the floor in the game including 68 percent in the first half, as they raced out to a commanding 53-33 lead at halftime.
 
The senior trio of Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs), Lawrence Coleman (Croton on the Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) and Jack Kolosky (Fishkill/Our Lady of Lourdes) each scored in double digits for Oneonta.  McElroy led all scorers with 24 points while also grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds.  McElroy made 8-of-11 shots from the field and hit 7-of-10 free throws.
 
Coleman made 6-of-12 shots and finished with 19 points while collecting seven rebounds.  Kolosky made 7-of-11 shots to finish with 14 points.  Kolosky also dished out five assists and had two blocks.
 
Oneonta held a clear advantage on the boards outrebounding Cobleskill 48-29 while also outscoring them in the paint 54-36.
 
Oneonta's reserves also had a solid showing led by freshman Harrison Deegan (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley) and Kevin Mackin (Nanuet/Nanuet) who combined for 16 of the bench's 26 points.  All of Mackin's points came from long range hitting 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
 
The Red Dragons led by as many as 27 points with just over 14 minutes to go in the second half.
 
Oneonta collected 23 assists on 33 baskets led by graduate student Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) who had six assists.  Kelly also grabbed seven rebounds and scored six points in his first game since February of 2015.
 
Tonight's win was also Head Coach Cameron Conover's first with the Red Dragons who will play Keene State tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
