The SUNY Oneonta women's volleyball team traveled to Cortland for the third and final round of conference pool play. The Red Dragon's would not lose a match, going 3-0 improving them to 7-2 in the SUNYAC and 12-15 overall. In the process they would also secure the No.2 overall seed for the SUNYAC tournament.
The Red Dragon's took down SUNY Geneseo in five sets to open up the weekend on Friday. The Red Dragon's rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to win 3-2 thanks to seniors
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) and
Jessica Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson). Carpluk would fill up the stats sheet with 16 kills and 16 digs while Pelaccio would have 23 assists with 10 digs. The Red Dragon's blocking unit would make its presence felt by out blocking Geneseo 12 to 6.
Victoria Moulder (Wantagh/Kellenberg Memorial) led Oneonta with seven blocks. Seniors
Kassidy Kievit (Cincinnatus/Cincinnatus Central) and
Erika Corbin (Kirkwood/Windsor) each had six blocks for the Red Dragons.
In the second match of pool play the Red Dragon's would take on the New Paltz Hawks. The Red Dragon's would beat the Hawks 3-1. For the Red Dragon's Corbin (11) and Carpluk (10) each had double-digit kills. Pelaccio would lead the team with 20 assists and freshman
Jessica Fowler (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) would add another 19 assists for Oneonta.
To finish off the weekend the Red Dragons swept Plattsburgh 3-0. In the match, junior
Melissa Voyer (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) had a match high six aces. Freshman
Lindsay Pelaccio (Verplanck/Hendrick Hudson) would collect 12 digs and classmate Fowler would lead the team in assists with 15.
With the No. 2 seed in hand, the Red Dragons will have a first round bye for the SUNYAC tournament which will be hosted by Brockport Nov. 4-6.
The Red Dragons next match will be at home this coming Wednesday in the Alumni Field House against Sage College at 6:00pm. Â
