Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer upended by Buffalo State in overtime

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Freshman Sophia Perrothers scored her first collegiate goal just 1:20 into overtime to lift No. 22 Buffalo State to a 1-0 victory over visiting Oneonta today at Coyer Field, securing the SUNYAC regular season title.

Despite the loss for Oneonta (8-4-4/5-2-1 SUNYAC), the Red Dragons are still in the hunt for second place and a first round bye for the upcoming conference tournament, which begins next Saturday.  Oneonta currently sits in third place just one point behind Geneseo and one point ahead of Plattsburgh.  The two play each other tomorrow and if they tie and Oneonta defeats Fredonia, then Oneonta would jump over Geneseo for second place.

Buffalo State dominated possession in the first half, but could not convert six corner kicks and the game remained scoreless at halftime.

The second half was more evenly played, despite Buffalo State continuing to outshoot the Red Dragons 10-6 in the period.

Oneonta thought it had the go-ahead goal with 3:17 remaining, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside call.

Perrothers game-winner was blasted from 15 yards out off a short pass from Melissa Smith that glanced off the crossbar to end the contest in favor of the Bengals.

Taylor Carillo equaled the Buffalo State record with her 10th shutout of the season, making two saves.

Emilie Mull (Marcy/Whitesboro) made eight saves for Oneonta.

Oneonta's game at Fredonia is scheduled for 1pm.
