Late Flurry Lifts Women's Soccer Past Brockport

Red Dragons shutout Golden Eagles 3-0

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team was dominant from the opening whistle today and came away with a 3-0 shutout of visiting Brockport.  All three goals were scored in a five-minute span late in the second half including a pair by junior Amanda Roney (Schoharie /Middleburgh).

The victory for Oneonta raised its overall record to 4-3-4 and 2-1-1 in the SUNYAC while Brockport fell to 5-3-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

The Red Dragons were relentless in its pressure throughout the match today, but were unable to put one into the goal in the first 45 minutes.  Oneonta put up eight shots in the opening half while earning six corner kicks.

The second half was much of the same with all the play being in the Brockport end of the field.  The Red Dragons finally broke through on one of its six corner kicks in the second half.

Junior Emily Opalinski (East Amherst /Williamsville East ) sent a ball into the box in front of the goal where it deflected off a defender and laid loose.  Junior Kayla Belush (Earlville/Sherburne-Earlville) was able to get her foot on the ball and directed a shot which the Brockport keeper got her hand on.  With the ball still loose in front, Roney was there to finish the play with a shot to the back of the goal.

Roney was in the right place at the right time on her second goal three minutes later.  Junior Laura Rolston (New City/Clarkstown South) fired a shot from outside the box that hit the cross bar square and deflected out in front of the goal where Roney collected the loose ball and shot it into the goal.

The final goal of the match was scored by sophomore Seaver Lipshie (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue), who collected a loose ball after the Brockport keeper made a save on a penalty kick by junior Rachel Berk (Eastchester/Eastchester).

Oneonta finished the match with 22 shots.  The Golden Eagles managed only a pair of shots which were handled by starter Emilie Mull (Marcy/Whitesboro) and Keely Sullivan (Troy/Troy), who played the final 8:19 of the game.

The Red Dragons have a date with Plattsburgh next Friday at home beginning at 3pm.
