Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer opens SUNYAC play with 3-1 win at Oswego

Three players score in victory

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Three different players registered goals today, as the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team opened its SUNYAC portion of the schedule with a 3-1 win at Oswego.  The Red Dragons were dominant, outshooting the Lakers 22-7 in the match, as they raised its overall record to 5-2-1.  The loss for Oswego dropped them to 3-3-1 overall.

Oneonta struck first exactly 13 minutes into the contest, as senior Greg Silvestro (West Sayville/Connetquot) dribbled in from just outside the top-left corner of the box and put a shot into the bottom right corner of the net. That score would hold into the break as neither team was able to notch a tally over the final 32 minutes of the opening period.

Silvestro helped increase the Red Dragon advantage in the second half, this time finding classmate Jared Van Brunt (Sayville/Sayville) to make it a 2-0 game.  Silvestro served the ball in on a corner kick and Van Brunt was able to get his head on the ball and get it over the Oswego keeper.

Oswego kept battling throughout the contest and finally broke through in the final five minutes. Sophomore Connor Lunduski used some fancy footwork to get his defender off balance before rocketing a pass into the box. The pass deflected off of a defender and caromed into the air towards the far post. Junior Harrison Rieber made a run towards the far post, out-leaping his Oneonta counterpart and heading the ball off the turf and into the back of the net.

Twelve seconds later, senior Zef Saljanin (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) pushed Oneonta's lead back to a pair of goals with his second goal of the year.  The assist came from freshman Alejandro Ruiz (Brentwood/Brentwood), who sent a low ball into the box where Saljanin just had to tap it to the back of the goal.

Senior Vincent Pellegrino (Baldwin/Baldwin) made two stops in picking up the win in goal while his counterpart, Todd Lawson, made four saves.

Oneonta will take on rival Cortland tomorrow on the road beginning at 1pm.
