Geneseo, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team went on the road to take on the defending SUNYAC champions yesterday and came away on the short end of a 9-0 score to SUNY Geneseo.
 
The Red Dragons could only muster one game in the doubles stanza.  Down 0-3 after doubles play the Red Dragons tried to mount some kind of offense but were thwarted on every court.  Junior Christine Santarsiero (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) came within one game of tying the second set to potentially get it to 4-4 at number five singles, but was broken and her opponent closed out the match and took that bout 6-1, 6-3.  At Number six singles, freshman Aubrey Hodnett went up 2-1 in the second set to give the Red Dragons reason for optimism, but she lost the next five games and the threat to the Knights perfect day was quickly fended off and that clinched the shutout win for Geneseo..
 
The women will try and get back on the winning track with an important matchup versus SUNY Cortland in the battle of Red Dragons tennis style.  This competition will  determine important seeding for next month's SUNYAC Championships.  This matchup will be held on the Dr. Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta on Thursday, Sept. 24th beginning at 3:30.
