Brockport, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team traveled to Brockport for the opening round of the SUNYAc Tournament Tuesday afternoon. The Red and White held a one goal lead at the half, but ultimately fell 15-14. Senior
Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) registered seven goals to lead the Red Dragons.
Donodeo helped the Red and White do what they usually do, score early. The senior buried a feed from rookie
Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial) just over a minute in.
Brockport answered just under three minutes later before the Red and White went on a three goal spurt. Donodeo notched her second goal of the contest just shy of five minutes in. Casey and senior
Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) scored 36 ticks apart to open a 4-1 lead for the Red Dragons six and a half minutes in.
Oneonta held that lead for almost five minutes before the Golden Eagles tied the game at four on a man-up goal in the midst of a five goal run that covered seven minutes.
Trailing 6-4, Casey and Donodeo helped the Read and White battle back to a one goal advantage. Casey sandwiched Donodeo's third goal of the afternoon with a pair two minutes apart. Brockport, again, tied the game six minutes later before Donodeo's fourth and Fioretti's second goal lifted the visitors to a two goal margin.
Brockport scored with three seconds left in the half to make the score 9-8 in favor of Oneonta at the break.
The second half did not see as much scoring. It took nearly six and a half minutes before the first goal was scored, Donodeo's fifth. After trading goals to make the score 11-9 in favor of the Red and White a trio of three goal spurts decided the game.
Brockport went first scoring three in four and a half minutes. Casey responded to tie the game at 12 before Donodeo finished off Oneonta's scoring with goals at 18:08 and 23:56.
The hosts netted three more in three and a half minutes, with the game winner coming at 28:24.
The Red and White conclude the season with a 7-10 regular season record, including 4-4 in conference play.
