Trio Nets Four Goals in Rout of Hartwick

Casey reaches 40-goal plateau

March 31, 2015

The SUNY Oneonta women's lacrosse team stepped on a chilly All College Field with an eye on building off Saturday's solid win at Oswego. The Red and White did just that as they overpowered in-town rival Hartwick 20-6. Rookie Taylor Casey (Garden City South/Kellenberg Memorial), sophomore Heather Fitzpatrick (Plainview/Plainview JFK) and senior Jillian Donodeo (Holbrook/Sachem East) paced the offense as each chalked up four goals on the evening.

The aforementioned trio accounted for Oneonta's first six goals. After trailing 1-0 in the opening stages of the first half, Fitzpatrick tallied the Red Dragons' first two goals half a minute apart. Senior Michelle Genovese (West Islip/West Islip) set up the first goal at 6:33 before made the other possible at 7:04. Donodeo and Casey alternated the next four points. The freshman handed out helpers on both Donodeo goals at 7:26 and 10:52.

Casey started adding to her team-leading scoring total on a feed from sophomore Katie Flannery (Massapequa/Plainedge) at 9:15, then again on a solo effort at 13:52. Junior Catherine Clark (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) rounded out a seven goal run by the Red and White with her 11th goal of the season at 15:32.

The Hawks put up a pair of goals 30 seconds apart in the 17th minute only to be answered immediately by the hosts. Freshman Jaime Morris (West Nyack/Clarkstown South) got in the fray at 17:08 of the first half with her 10th goal of the year before senior Nikki Fioretti (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown)'s 15th tally at 18:20. Genovese responded to a pair of Hartwick goals with a free position tally with just under five minutes left in the opening stanza to send the game to the half at 10-5.

While the offense rifled 32 shots in the first 30 minutes, the defense restricted the Hawks to just a dozen. Freshman Autumn Moore (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) played the first half between the pipes making a pair of saves.

Donodeo and Casey picked the Red Dragon offense up right where they finished in the first half, each meeting twine for the third time on the day less than a minute into the half. The Red Dragons put up the half's first five goals in barely over three minutes of play.

Hartwick scored their lone goal of the half at 5:19 before Oneonta's final push. After Morris answered the Hawks' goal, rookie Lindsey Rose (Camillus/West Genesee) recorded her first career goal at 11:09.

Casey added her 40th goal of the season before Fitzpatrick ended the game the way she started it. Her last two goals, which came within a minute of each other, puts her at a half dozen on the campaign.

Junior Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) played the second half between the pipes make one save.

The 4-6 Red Dragons take a few days off before traveling to Brockport for a SUNYAC contest on Saturday.
