Women's basketball holds back Plattsburgh 58-50

Cohen and Longto score 15 points each to lead Oneonta

The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball took control from the opening tip and then held off a comeback effort en route to a 58-50 victory tonight at home versus Plattsburgh.  Junior Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) and senior Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) each collected 15 points to lead Oneonta (12-7, 7-5 SUNYAC).
 
Senior Brittany Marshall led Plattsburgh (9-10, 6-6 SUNYAC) with a game high 23 points.
 
Oneonta grabbed a 27-15 lead at halftime and continued to build on it to where they led by as many as 22 points with just under 12 minutes remaining in the contest.  Sophomore Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) converted a three-point play to give the Red Dragons a 42-20 advantage.
 
Still trailing by 20 points with 7:05 to go, the Cardinals ran off eight unanswered, capped by a basket from Marshall who buried a three.
 
After a basket by Longto, Plattsburgh scored eight straight points to cut its deficit to eight points with 1:39 remaining.  Marshall made a driving layup to make the score 51-43.
 
Oneonta secured the victory down the stretch by converting 7-of-10 free throws.
 
Junior Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) collected a game high 10 rebounds for Oneonta to go with seven points, three steals and three assists.  Longto recorded three blocks while grabbing nine boards.
 
Junior Caitlin Cariseo (Syracuse/Jamesville Dewitt), sophomore Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) and freshman Tyra Harrison (Baldwin/Baldwin) combined for 20 points off the bench tonight for Oneonta.
 
Oneonta will be home gain tomorrow afternoon when they host SUNY Potsdam for a SUNYAC contest beginning at 4pm.
