Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball falls at SUNY Cotland

Sarah Longto records double-double

Despite outrebounding its rival Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland, 40-30, and having a 24-12 advantage in the paint, the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team fell tonight on the road 64-56.  Both teams made 22 field goals, but the difference came at the foul line where Cortland outscored Oneonta 17-7.  Oneonta (13-8, 8-6 SUNYAC) received 15 points and 11 rebounds from senior Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) in the game while Cortland (17-4, 11-3 SUNYAC) got a game high 25 points from Brittney Dumas.

The two teams took turns with the lead three times in the first five minutes of the contest.  A 9-2 spurt by Oneonta over the next four minutes gave them the lead 19-12 at the 11:11 mark.  Longto converted a layup to give Oneonta its largest lead.

Oneonta continued to lead by seven points with just over eight minutes to go in the first half before Cortland stormed back to tie the game at 27 apiece after putting together a 10-3 run of its own.  A pair of free throws by Dumas brought Cortland even with 3:35 left.

Longto made a layup to give Oneonta the lead back, but Cortland closed the half with seven unanswered to take a 34-29 lead into halftime.

Cortland continued to build on its halftime lead and worked it to as many as 15 points with just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest.  Oneonta battled back and cut its deficit to six points with 37 seconds left, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Oneonta will be on the road again this weekend for a pair of SUNYAC games.  The Red Dragons will face Brockport on Friday night and SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon.
