The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team led for more than 28 minutes today, but in the end, they were overtaken in the final quarter by King's, falling 50-45 in the final game of the 2015 Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Oneonta. King's (4-0) took home the team title after winning both of its games during the two-day tournament and based on points allowed. Middlebury also won both of its games this weekend.
Â
Oneonta's (1-2) last lead was 31-30 with 38 seconds left in the third quarter. A pair of free throws by Kayla Feairheller put the Monarchs ahead, 32-31, entering the fourth quarter. Feairheller finished the contest with 12 points.
Â
King's built itself a seven point lead early in the final quarter before the Red Dragons made a run at them. Back-to-Back three-pointers by junior
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) cut the lead back to one point with 4:32 remaining. Adams led all scorers in the game with 17 points. She connected on five shots from behind the arc, which matched her career best.
Â
With the score 46-45 in favor of the Monarchs, a charging call was levied against
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool), which negated a basket that put the Red Dragons ahead. Junior Kasey Seitz made two free throws to make the score 48-45 with 12 seconds left.
Â
On the ensuing Oneonta possession, Adams had her three-point attempt blocked by Jennifer Fabian with three seconds left. Oneonta then fouled and Feairheller made her two free throws to secure the win.
Â
Price led all players in the game with 15 rebounds to go with nine points and six blocks. The Red Dragons collected 11 total blocks in today's contest.
Â
Tara Zdancewicz added a team high 13 points for King's.
