Women's basketball falls to Middlebury

Lyteshia Price records second straight double double

The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team had a tough shooting night and fell to the Middlebury Panthers, 60-38, in its opening game of the 2015 Holiday Inn Classic.  The Red Dragons will conclude play tomorrow with a contest against King's College beginning at 3pm.  King's defeated Hartwick College in its game this evening 49-39.
 
Middlebury had three players reach double figures led by sophomore Sarah Kaufman's 23 points on 9-of-19 shooting.  She also dished out six assists while connecting on three from long range.
 
Freshman Catherine Harrison recorded a double double in the first half en route to 12 points and a game high 15 boards.  Sophomore Sabrina Weeks also finished with a double double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
 
Senior Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) recorded her second straight double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Oneonta (1-1).
 
The Panthers led, 14-9, after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 11 points in the second quarter on two occasions before the Red Dragons closed its deficit to 27-22 at the half.
 
Out of the break, Oneonta cut Middlebury's lead to three points, but a 7-0 run got the Panthers back to a 10-point bulge with 4:13 remaining in the third quarter.
 
The Red Dragons got back to single digits, but the Panthers closed the quarter with six unanswered to lead 45-33 at the end of the third.
 
The Panthers continued to build its lead in the fourth quarter, as they led 53-35 midway through the final stanza.  Middlebury led by as many as 24 points with 1:15 remaining.
 
Oneonta finished the game shooting 18 percent while the Panthers shot 41 percent.  The Panthers controlled the glass with a 58-40 rebound advantage while also collecting five blocks.
