Senior
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) began her final season in a SUNY Oneonta women's basketball uniform by dropping a career high 31 points on Utica College, as the Red Dragons defeated the Pioneers 65-52. Price also added 10 rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks.
Â
Oneonta led from start to finish thanks to Price who hit her first three shots she took, all from behind the arc, to give the Red Dragons a 9-2 lead out of the gate. Price connected on 11-of-18 from the floor including 6-of-8 from long distance.
Â
As a team, Oneonta hit 40 percent overall (24-60) while hitting 10-of-24 from behind the arc. They outrebounded Utica, 46-38, and led by as many as 20 points with 6:49 to go in the fourth quarter.
Â
The Red Dragons held a 19-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Pioneers, 14-4, in the second quarter to build a 33-16 lead at halftime. Price scored 21 of her 31 points in the first half.
Â
Joining Price in double figures tonight was junior
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan), who scored 13 points while collecting six boards.
Â
Utica got as close as nine points midway through the third quarter on a basket by junior Calypso Carty, but that would be it. Carty finished the game with 14 points. Senior Mary Miceli led Utica with 16 points and sophomore Ashley Mayo added 11 points and a team high seven rebounds.
Â
Oneonta will host the Holiday Inn Classic this Friday and Saturday. The Red Dragons will play Middlebury at 8pm on Friday and King's College on Saturday at 3pm.
