The SUNY Oneonta volleyball would take the first two sets, drop the third set and bounce back to win its match tonight in four sets against Sage Colleges. Â The Red Dragons improved their record to 17-11 while the Sage Gators dropped to 20-10.
In the first set Oneonta easily pulled away from Sage (25-17), then won the second set by a closer score (25-22). The Red Dragons lost the third set (23-25), and came back strong to finish the match with a 25-15 win in the final set.
Oneonta's lineup combined for a .224 attack percentage. Senior outside hitter
Jill Darpino (Endicott/Union Endicott) had nine kills with a .389 attack percentage to lead the Red Dragons. Â Sophomore
Melissa Voyer (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), senior
Kristen Polan (Westhampton/Westhampton Beach) and sophomore
Justine Abbate (Massapequa/Massapequa) all had eight kills each, while Abbate added six digs with a solo block. The Red Dragons also got 25 assists from senior
Karly Greco (East Patchogue/Bellport), while junior Jessica Pelacio added 17 assists. Senior libero
Allyson Coniglione (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) racked up 22 digs with two aces, while Greco had four aces. Junior
Paige Carpluk (Yaphank/Bellport) added 19 digs with three aces.
The Red Dragons collected 63 kills in the match while recording 76 points, almost doubling Sage Colleges' in both categories.Â
The Red Dragons next match is at home against Ramapo at 5pm this Friday in the Dig Pink Invitational at the Dewar Arena.
