Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer defeats Buffalo State 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team closed out its regular season schedule in the SUNYAC today with a 1-0 road win against Buffalo State.  The victory for Oneonta (13-3-1/8-1 SUNYAC) was its fourth straight.

A goal in the 16th minute by senior Alex Winiarski (Great Neck/St. Anthony's) stood up for the Red Dragons, as its stingy defense held Buffalo State (10-6-2/4-4-1 SUNYAC) to just three shots.  Winiarski's goal was unassisted, as he put a direct kick from 22-yards out inside the left post.

The Bengals best scoring chance of the game came in the 60th minute when Tristan Myers blasted a shot from 25 yards that Oneonta goalkeeper Vincent Pellegrino (Baldwin/Baldwin) was able to leap up and punch over the cross bar.  Pellegrino finished with a pair of saves and picked up his eighth shutout of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Robby Kuhnle finished with four saves in goal for the Bengals in the final home game of his collegiate career.

Oneonta held a decided advantage in shots (15-3) for the game.

Oneonta will closeout the 2015 regular season this Wednesday on the road at Lycoming beginning at 3:30pm.

"This was another excellent performance against a good Buffalo State side," said Coach Iain Byrne.  "With us earning the top seed for the conference tournament, we are looking forward to hosting either Plattsburgh or Potsdam in the semifinals."

The SUNYAC tournament semifinal for Oneonta is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4.
