Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer stays unbeaten in the SUNYAC

Red Dragons defeat New Paltz on the road

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team rebounded nicely from its Tuesday setback to Ithaca today with a 2-0 road win at New Paltz.  The victory for the Red Dragons keeps them unbeaten in the SUNYAC with two conference regular season games remaining.

Oneonta (10-2-2/6-0-1 SUNYAC) entered today's match with the Hawks already having clinched a playoff spot.  If the Red Dragons finish first or second after the regular season they will receive a first-round bye and will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The senior goalkeeping duo of Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) and Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) combined for three saves as the two combined for their sixth shutout of the season.  Murphy started today's match and picked up her seventh win of the year.

Oneonta outshot New Paltz (2-11-2/1-4-2 SUNYAC), 18-7, including 12-4 in the opening half where they scored the eventual game-winner.

Oneonta came out of the gate peppering the New Paltz keeper.  The Red Dragons put up four shots in the opening 11 minutes including one by sophomore Keley Abbriano (Hicksville/Hicksville) that hit the post in the 11th minute.

Eight minutes later, Oneonta got on the scoreboard when senior Avery Serfis (West Hurley/Onteora) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season.  Serfis was set up by sophomore Rachel Berk (Eastchester/Eastchester) on the play where she sent a low shot just inside the left post.

Oneonta's final goal came in the 83rd minute on a penalty kick by senior Kayla Ceschini (Miller Place/Miller Place).

The Red Dragons will conclude its regular season at home next weekend with a pair of SUNYAC matches versus Fredonia and Buffalo State.  The game on Saturday against Buffalo State could very well be for the top seed, as the Bengals and Oneonta have been exchanging between first and second place.
