Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball leads wire to wire at Oswego

Caysea Cohen scores 19 points to lead Oneonta

Junior Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) scored a game high 19 points in leading the SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team to a 66-54 road win tonight against Oswego.  The Red Dragons turned 22 turnovers by the Lakers into 28 points while also outscoring Oswego's bench 22-17.  Oneonta (7-3, 2-1 SUNYAC) also collected 17 offensive rebounds and finished the game with a 47-41 advantage off the glass.

The game remained scoreless for the opening two minutes before a lay-up by Cohen got the Red Dragons rolling.  Junior Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) followed with a three-pointer and senior Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) added a bucket to put Oneonta out front to stay.

Longto finished the game with 12 points and seven boards while Price collected nine points and a team high eight rebounds.  Sophomore Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) came off the bench to score 10 points in the game.

A lay-up by Heather Hebert brought Oswego (3-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) to 9-7 before Oneonta put together a quick 10-2 run to take a 10-point lead at 19-9.  A jumper by Adams gave the Red Dragons its first double digit lead of the night.

Another lay-up by Hebert at the 5:52 mark cut the deficit back to three points at 25-22.  Oneonta closed the first half with an 11-4 spurt to lead 36-26 at halftime.

Oneonta built its lead to as many as 18 points with just under 10 minutes remaining in the contest.  The Lakers made a final run at the Red Dragons and got as close as seven points at 57-50 with 4:19 to go, but could not get any closer.

Oneonta will play its initial home game of the second semester this Friday when they host SUNY Geneseo scheduled for a 7:30pm tip-off.
