New Paltz, NY - The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team were back on the road competing against conference rival New Paltz Hawks yesterday and came up short by the score of 142-120.Â
The top performer of the day for the Red Dragons was junior
Lauren Zentko (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) who won three individual events. In the 1000 yard freestyle she had a very impressive performance touching the wall with a time of 11:02.30 which was 23.28 seconds ahead of the second place runner up from New Paltz. Later in the day she won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:20.40 and that was 6.27 seconds ahead of the second place New Paltz Hawks finisher. Zentko picked up her third win of the day in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.08 with teammate
Hillary Chocko (Queensbury/Queensbury) coming in a close second place 2.20 behind. Together the pair earned 13 points in that event for the Red Dragons.
Earlier in the day, Chocko found her name in the winners column when she swam in the 200 yard butterfly clocking in at 2:19.81 just 1.90 seconds ahead of her Red Dragon teammate senior
Kelly Ruf (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham). With their first and second place finish in the event the pair added another 13 points to the overall score. Chocko was also victorious in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2.33.97 just .75 seconds slightly ahead of her New Paltz rival.
The 50 yard freestyle also found a Red Dragon in the first place position with freshman
Kylie Loforte (Farmington/Canandaigua Academy ) taking the honors with a time of 26.06.
Rounding out the Red Dragon victories for the day were senior
Carly Cahill (Troy/Troy) in the 200 yard backstroke with a brilliant time of 2:17.17 exactly three seconds ahead of the second place competitor from New Paltz. Â
The women's diving team will have a very quick turnaround as they travel to Ithaca College to compete in the Ithaca Diving Invitational beginning at 1 PM on Sunday, January 25th.
