The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team had four players in double figures today, as they cruised past the visiting New Paltz Hawks, 84-63, in SUNYAC action. The victory for Oneonta (6-7, 3-3 SUNYAC) snapped a four-game skid. The loss for the New Paltz (6-7, 4-2 SUNYAC) ended its four-game winning streak.

The Red Dragons continued to build on its 13-point halftime advantage. Oneonta shot 50 percent from the field in the second half including 8-of-15 from behind the arc. They also doubled up the Hawks on the boards (48-24) including 22 off the offensive glass that led to 23 second chance points.

Senior
Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) scored 14 points in the second half and finished with a team high 19 points. Mager made five three-pointers in the contest, as the Red Dragons made a total of 11.

Junior
Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored 14 of his 16 points in the opening half. Sophomore
Lawrence Coleman (Croton on Hudson/Hendrick Hudson) scored a career high 13 points and grabbed eight boards while junior
Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) came off the bench to add 12 points.

The Hawks were led by junior Zach Cone-Douglas who scored 15 points.

After an Alex Pearlman layup gave New Paltz a 6-4 lead, Oneonta countered with six quick points to take its first lead of the game at 10-6. A layup by Zuvic gave the Red Dragons the four-point advantage.

The Hawks put together an 11-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Keegan Donovan at the 12:32 mark gave them a 17-12 lead. The five-point advantage was the largest lead of the first half for New Paltz.

Trailing 19-16 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Oneonta seized control with 10 unanswered points to take a 26-19 lead with just over seven minutes to go. Coleman led the charge with five points. Coleman finished the half with seven points.

The Red Dragons continued to build its lead and carried a 44-31 lead into halftime.

Oneonta is until Friday, Jan. 23 when they travel to Buffalo State to take on the Bengals beginning at 5:30pm.
