Cortland, N.Y. – The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team fell 1-0 in overtime at Cortland Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) played the first half in goal for without registering a save. Classmate goalie
Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster) finished the game making a trio of saves.
Oneonta put the pressure on in the waning seconds of a quiet first half as
Avery Serfis (West Hurley/Onteora) and
Paige McDermott (Floral Park/Kellenberg Memorial) each fired a shot the was blocked.
Stark stood strong in the early goings of the second half, making her three saves in the first 25 minutes of the stanza. The junior stopped a shot fired right at her in the 56
th minute, before making a diving save just seven minutes later.
Oneonta answered with a push of their own in the second half. Freshman
Shannen Gillespie (West Islip/West Islip) registered a quality chance to grab the lead in the 65th minute, but Walker denied freshman
Shannen Gillespie (West Islip/West Islip) with a sprawling stop at the left post. The visiting Red Dragons had one last opportunity to take the lead in the 88th minute. Junior
Jessica Lyden (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) was alone at the six-yard box but was denied by the Cortland keeper.
Cortland scored against a charging Stark in the 95
th minute to sink Oneonta.
SUNY Oneonta returns to the comfort of Red Dragon Soccer Field next Friday and Saturday to continue SUNYAC play. Brockport visits on Friday for a 4 pm contest, while Geneseo comes to town Saturday for a 1 pm start.
