The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team picked up a neutral site victory last night against Marywood University at Hofstra 11-7. Sophomore Michael Metzger scored four goals to lead the attack, as the Red Dragons ended its mini three-game skid.
Oneonta (2-7) scored the opening two goals of the contest, as junior Anthony Laureano and sophomore Connor Coyle gave the Red Dragons the early lead.
Marywood (3-6) countered with three unanswered that carried them to halftime with a 3-2 lead.
The second half was all Oneonta, as they outscored Marywood, 9-4, including 4-1 in the final quarter to take the victory.
After falling behind early in the third quarter, 4-2, Oneonta came back with a pair of goals to even the score at four goals apiece midway through the quarter. Metzger scored his first goal of the game and was followed by junior James Reiser, who notched his first of the season.
Marywood went back ahead by two goals before Oneonta closed the quarter with three unanswered to grab the lead, 7-6, entering the fourth quarter. Metzger scored the go-ahead goal with 11 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
The Red Dragons put the game out of reach with the first four goals of the fourth quarter including a pair by Metzger.
Freshman Zach Reilly made eight saves in his collegiate debut to pick up his first win in a Red Dragon uniform.
Oneonta will be at home this Saturday as they face Brockport in its SUNYAC opener beginning at 11am.
