Four pool records fell this afternoon as the women's swimming and diving team gets tripped up by visiting SUNY Cortland in a dual meet, 130-107. The loss drops the women's record to 5-3 as the team now prepares for the SUNYAC Championships in two weeks.
Highlighting the afternoon was the performance by sophomore
Lauren Zentko (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) as she broke the first pool record of the afternoon as well as setting a new school record for the women in the 1000 yard freestyle event. Her time of 10:50.59 was six seconds faster than the previous pool record that was set last weekend by Chelsea Allocco of New Paltz. The time was also three seconds faster than the old school record that belonged to Zentko which she set it back in November.
Zentko would also win two more individual events, the 200 yard intermediate medley and the 500 yard freestyle.
The quartet of
Carly Cahill (Troy/Troy),
Kristin Higgins (Queensbury/Glens Falls),
Alexxa Poliachik (Niagara Falls/Niagara Wheatfield) and
Sarah Greco (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) also set a new pool record in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The old record was set back in 2011 by a group from Cortland.
Sophomore
Taylor Waldrop (Fairport/Fairport) won the 200 yard freestyle.
Cortland's Chrisanna Hickey and Miranda Fergus broke two pool records this afternoon. Hickey brook a three year old record in the 100 yard butterfly while Fergus set a new record in the 1 meter diving event for 11 dives. Fergus' score also was an NCAA qualifying score.
