Freshman Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) tied his season high with 25 points to lead the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team to an 81-77 victory today at SUNY Potsdam.  The win for Oneonta (9-10/6-6 SUNYAC) allowed them to leave the North Country with a weekend split, as last night the Red Dragons lost at Plattsburgh, 77-54.

Oneonta had four players in double figures today including two with 20+ points.  Junior Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) scored 23 points while senior Dan Lee (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and sophomore Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) each scored 11 points.

Today's game was won at the foul line for the Red Dragons, as they outscored Potsdam (3-14/1-10 SUNYAC), 27-11, from the charity stripe.  The Red Dragons made 27-of-34 free throws in the game while the Bears converted 11-of-14.  McElroy led all shooters with 10 free throws followed by Mager and Lee who both made eight free throws.  Lee was a perfect 8-for-8.  Oneonta made 7-of-8 down the stretch to secure the win.

Oneonta took a 44-37 lead into halftime thanks to 12 points by McElroy and 11 points each by Mager and Zuvic.  The Bears made a run in the first five minutes of the second half before the Red Dragons built themselves a 10-point lead with less than 12 minutes to go in the game.

Last night against Plattsburgh, Oneonta fell behind early and couldn't get back into the game, falling by 23 points.  McElroy was the only player to reach double figures with 10 points.

Oneonta will be at Oswego on Tuesday night beginning at 8pm.  The Red Dragons defeated the Lakers in their first meeting of the season, 75-69, in overtime.
