The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team took the floor with in-town rival Hartwick Tuesday evening in Dewar arena, coming away with a 57-42 decision.
Â
A quartet of Red Dragons posted double figures led by senior
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston)'s 12. Junior
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool), junior
Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville), and rookie
Tyra Harrison (Baldwin/Baldwin) added 10 points apiece.
Â
Price dominated the first half, scoring all 10 of her points in the opening 20 minutes. The forward nailed a jumper just short of two minutes in to open up the scoring.
Â
The offense started clicking when the
Brianna Spector (Philadelphia, PA/Upper Dublin) drained a shot from distance in the midst of a 7-2 Red Dragon run the expanded the lead to seven. Minutes later, Price would help the Red and White maintain a seven point advantage by taking a pair of
Samantha Lisikatos (Cold Spring/Haldane) feeds to lay in a two points and hitting a three.
Â
Oneonta led by as many as 10 in the first half on the heels of a pair of Cohen free throws. They would take a 23-18 lead in the break.
Â
Longto and Cohen would be the leaders of the second stanza as each player dropped eight points. It would be
Caitlin Cariseo (Syracuse/Jamesville Dewitt), however, that started the scoring in the frame with a jumper on the very first possession. Sara Dipasquale answered a quick six point run by the Hawks with a layup with 16:50 remaining to help the Red and White hold a slim four point lead before Cohen buried a triple.
Â
The middle portions of the frame is where Oneonta made its move to the tune of a 14-0 run spanning just shy of three minutes. Four different Red Dragons scored in the run led by a layup and three pointer from
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan). Longto capped the run with a pair of free throws to open a game-high 15-point spread that sealed the win. Â Â
Â
Oneonta shot 40.4% from the field, including 6-18 from distance en route to the victory where they never trailed.
Â
The Red and White move to 4-1 on the season and travel to Potsdam to open SUNYAC play on Friday night.
