The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team shot 49 percent tonight while outrebounding Rensselaer, 50-33, en route to a 74-66 victory in the Oneonta Holiday Inn Classic hosted by Hartwick.  The Red Dragons move to 2-1 after winning its second straight game while Rensselaer falls to 2-2.
 
Senior Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) continued her strong early season play inside with 20 points to lead Oneonta.  The Red Dragons also received 19 points from junior Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) and 11 points from freshman Tyra Harrison (Baldwin/Baldwin).
 
Oneonta led from the opening tip tonight, as they jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first eight minutes of the game.  Price had three baskets including two from behind the arc to fuel to opening run.
 
A jumper by Price with 1:22 remaining in the opening half gave the Red Dragons its largest lead first half lead of 17 points at 35-18.  Rensselaer scored the last eight points of the half to cut its deficit to nine points entering the break.
 
Oneonta held a 49-40 lead at the 11:50 mark of the second half before putting the game out of reach with 13 unanswered points.  A three-point basket by Harrison gave the Red Dragons its largest lead of the game at 62-40 with 8:41 remaining in the contest.
 
Oneonta outscored Rensselaer 38-16 in the paint and collected 19 assists on 28 baskets.  Junior Caysea Cohen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) dished out eight assists while grabbing eight rebounds.  Classmate Bryn Loomis (Norwich/Norwich) contributed a team high nine boards to go with eight points and five assists.
 
Oneonta will play Moravian on Sunday to complete the two-day event.  The game is scheduled for a 4pm tip-off.
