Junior Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) buried a three-pointer while also shutting the door on Oswego, as the SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team defeated the Lakers 75-69 in overtime tonight in SUNYAC action.  Mager paced Oneonta with 22 points in the contest including nine points in overtime, as the Red Dragons are now 5-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The two teams went through regulation knotted at 63 apiece after Mager sank 1-of-2 free throws with 36 seconds remaining in regulation.  Neither team could convert on its final chances, which forced the extra period.

Trailing 67-65 after a pair of Dan Ross free throws, Mager tied the score with two free throws before hitting the pair to give Oneonta a 69-67 lead with 2:53 remaining in overtime.

Down the stretch in regulation, Oneonta held a 60-56 advantage before the Lakers fought its way back to tie the score at 62 apiece on a basket by Rashawn Powell with 1:31 to go.  Powell would record 19 points and 10 boards before fouling out with 36 seconds remaining.

Oneonta finished with four players in double figures tonight led by Mager.  Sophomore Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) had 15 points off the bench while senior Dan Lee (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and freshman Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) each added 10 points.

Freshman Brian Sortino led Oswego (8-2/2-1 SUNYAC) with a game high 26 points.

Oneonta will travel to New Paltz this Saturday to face the Hawks for a late afternoon contest beginning at 4pm.
