The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving team fell to the visiting New Paltz Hawks today 95-110. The loss drops Oneonta's record to 5-2 overall in dual-meets.
The highlight of the afternoon was the new school record set by junior
Hillary Chocko (Queensbury/Queensbury) in the 200-yard breaststroke. Chocko broke the old record set by
Kristen Magliola (Shoreham/Shoreham Wading River) in 2012 by .81 seconds.
In the opening event of the afternoon, the quartet of
Carly Cahill (Troy/Troy), Chocko,
Lauren Zentko (Glenville/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Chandler Shepard (Delhi/Delaware Academy) broke a pool record in the 400-yard medley relay. The old record was set back in 2011 by a team from New Paltz. The new record is over 2 seconds faster.
Shepard,
Kelly Ruf (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) and
Taylor Waldrop (Fairport/Fairport) were all individual winners. Shepard won the 50-yard freestyle, Ruf won the 200-yard butterfly and Waldrop won the 200-yard backstroke.
Three other pool records were broke by swimmers from New Paltz. Cassidy Griger set a new record in the 200-yard freestyle while Chelsea Allocco set records in winning the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events.
Oneonta plays host to Cortland next Saturday, February 1st, for a meet that begins at 1 p.m.
