Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball falls at home to Plattsburgh

The SUNY Oneonta men's basketball team fell at home today to visiting Plattsburgh 84-73 in SUNYAC men's action.  The loss for the Red Dragons snapped a four-game win streak, as they are now 8-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play.  The win for the Cardinals raises its record to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in the SUNYAC.

Oneonta trailed 63-53 after a made three-pointer by Ezra Hodgson with 9:30 to go in the contest.  The Red Dragons then ran off eight straight points over the next minute to cut the Cardinals lead back to two points.

After a timeout by Plattsburgh, the Cardinals countered with an 8-0 run of its own to push its lead back to 10 points with 4:41 remaining.  The spurt was capped by a pair of free throws by Shavar Fields, who scored 22 points in the contest.  He shared team high scorer honors with senior John Perez, who also added a team high eight rebounds.

A basket by sophomore Jackson Zuvic (Cold Spring/Haldane) on the next possession was the last time Oneonta trailed by less than double digits.  The Cardinals put together another 8-0 run over the next three minutes to put the game out of reach.

Junior Zach Mager (New City/Clarkstown South) led Oneonta again with 28 points.  It was the eleventh time this season that Mager has scored at least twenty points in a game.

Zuvic finished with 12 points, classmate Jack Dignan (Brewster/Brewster) added 11 points and freshman Mikey McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) scored 10 points while grabbing a team high nine boards.

Oneonta will be back in action this coming Tuesday night against SUNY Cortland beginning at 8pm.  The two met just this past Tuesday with Oneonta defeating its rival 78-70 in overtime.
