The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team won its sixth straight game tonight, as they defeated rival SUNY Cortland on the road 72-65. Oneonta (10-2/4-1 SUNYAC) had three players reach double figures led by senior
Alyshia Crawford's (Oxford/Oxford) season and collegiate high 24 points. Crawford has now posted 20+ points in two out of her last three games. She also added nine boards and five assists.
The two squads went back-and-forth for the first nine minutes of the second half. There were five lead changes during that stretch with the final one coming when Crawford buried one of her collegiate best six three-pointers. Her three-pointer gave Oneonta a 55-53 lead with 11:43 remaining.
After pushing its lead to six points, Cortland (8-5/4-2 SUNYAC) fought back to get to within one point on a Lindsey Minor basket that made the score 62-61 at the 7:43 mark. Oneonta essentially put the game out of reach with seven unanswered, capped by a pair of free throws by sophomore
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) with just over one minute to go. Price scored eight points in the second half and finished the game with 13 points to go with eight rebounds.
Junior
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) registered a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Longto got Oneonta rolling in the second half with the team's first six points out of the locker room.
Oneonta had to dig itself out of a 10-point deficit late in the opening half. Trailing 31-21 with 6:16 to go in the first half, Oneonta closed with a 12-4 spurt to pull within 35-33 at the break. Oneonta had 10 offensive rebounds in the half that led to 15 second chance points to Cortland's two points.
Freshman
Cara Adams (Attleboro, MA/Bishop Feehan) started the closing run by hitting a three-pointer and senior
Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River) closed the half with a layup with one second left on the clock.
Oneonta returns home this Friday to begin a five-game home stand. The Red Dragons will face SUNY Potsdam beginning at 6pm.
