The SUNY Oneonta baseball team collected 14 hits en route to an 8-5, game 2 victory to earn a split versus Fredonia today in a SUNYAC doubleheader. Junior
Mike McFerran (Albany/Catholic Central) pitched four innings of one-hit ball in relief to earn his first win of the season.
Oneonta (9-14/4-2 SUNYAC) held a comfortable 6-0 lead after three innings, which included a four-run first inning. The big hit in the inning was a two-out triple by senior
Rob Peluso (Rensselaer/Columbia) that drove in a pair of runs.
In the third inning, a two-out double by senior
Thomas Hand (Wallkill/Valley Central) drove in Peluso and Chris Mastroianni to give the Red Dragons a 6-0 advantage.
Fredonia (13-5/4-2 SUNYAC) rallied in the top of the fourth inning and pushed across five runs to cut the lead to 6-5. A pair of errors by Oneonta led to three unearned runs in the inning. McFerran entered the game after starter
Noah Raspler (East Northport/John H. Glen) failed to register an out. Raspler allowed only one hit and five runs in three-plus innings.
In the bottom of the fourth, Oneonta scored two runs to make the score 8-5. Senior
Dean Haussel (Sound Beach/Miller Place) started the inning with a double, went to third on a single by Plata and then scored on a single by
Christopher Orlando (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley). Plata also scored on the play when the right fielder threw wide of third base in an attempt to get Plata out. Orlando also tried to score when the ball got away from the third baseman and was thrown out at the plate.

Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) and Peluso all collected two hits in the game.
In game 1, Oneonta scored single runs in the first three innings to take an early lead and added two more in the bottom of the fourth inning to lead 5-1 after four innings. Fredonia rallied late to force extra innings and won it in 11 innings, 6-5.
Massaroni doubled to leadoff the fourth inning and scored on a single and a fielding error by the center fielder. Hand drove in the second run of the inning with a single to center field that drove in Mastroianni.
The Blue Devils scored two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at five apiece. Dillon Lowe doubled down the line to drive in the first run of the inning while Conner Lorenzo hit a sacrifice fly to knock in the second run.
In the eighth, Brian Sheehan and Dan Fetes singled to start the inning and then were moved over by a sacrifice bunt by Ian Gallagher. Sheehan scored on a ground out to second base by Matt Casilio while Fetes moved to third base. Fetes scored two batters later when Lowe singled through the left side.
In the eleventh, Sheehan hit a two-out single to center field to drive in Jake Nowak, which proved to be the game-winning run.
Kyle Grey was masterful for the Blue Devils in relief of starter Zachary Hugg. Grey went the final seven innings and allowed four hits and no runs while recording two strikeouts.
The two teams are scheduled to complete their three-game series tomorrow at Red Dragon Baseball Field at 3pm for a single nine-inning contest.
