Oswego's Dan Erne threw a complete game, two-hitter today, as the Lakers defeated SUNY Oneonta, 6-1 in SUNYAC action. The game was the first of a three-game series, which will conclude tomorrow at Red Dragon Field beginning at noon when the two teams will play a doubleheader. The series was scheduled to be played in Oswego, but because of poor field conditions, the games had to be moved to Oneonta.
Senior Dan Erne went the distance for the Lakers and struck out two batters and allowing only a pair of hits. Erne, who didn't allow an earned run today, is now 3-1 on the season.
Oswego (11-10/4-4 SUNYAC) scored a single run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. Junior Mike McMullen hit a two-out double down the right field line and came around to score when senior Alex Jurczynski singled to right field.
The Lakers tacked on three more runs in the second inning, two of which were unearned. With one out, Mike Mascari was hit by a pitch and then stole second. He moved to third on a single to right field by Andrew Lazzaro. Mascari scored on a fielding error by the third baseman, which allowed Ed Charles to reach and Lazzaro to move up to second base. Another error at third with two outs loaded the bases for Oswego, who then got a two-run single by McMullen to cap the inning.
Oswego's final runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning via a pinch-hit single by Kyle Liner and a fielder's choice, RBI from Charles.
Oneonta's lone run of the game came in the eighth inning with two outs. Sophomore
Dylan Stamile (Long Beach, NY/Bowie (Austin, TX)) was hit by a pitch and then went to second on a single by senior
Rob Peluso (Rensselaer/Columbia) to start the inning. Senior
Dean Haussel (Sound Beach/Miller Place) walked to load the bases before a fielding error by the shortstop allowed Stamile to score from third base. The inning ended with a fly out to right field by
Christopher Orlando (Putnam Valley/Putnam Valley).
Sophomore
Steve Ascher (Cutchogue/Mattituck) took the loss for Oneonta today, as he fell to 3-3 on the season. Ascher allowed 10 hits and four earned runs while recording five strikeouts.
Brian Hamilton led the Lakers with three hits while McMullen and Lazzaro each collected two hits.
