Trailing 46-39 with 4:21 remaining in the game, the visiting SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons scored the final 13 points to steal a 52-46 win against city rival Hartwick College this evening. Oneonta (4-1) took the lead for good on a
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) layup with 2:26 left, as the Red Dragons handed Hartwick (5-1) its first loss of the season.
Longto had her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with a game high four blocks. Senior
Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) led all scorers in the game with 19 points, which included 4-of-6 from behind the arc. Longto hit of 9-of-10 from the charity stripe, as Oneonta hit 18-of-20 as a team for the game. Crawford and Longto each made a pair of free throws over the final 18 seconds, which gave Oneonta its six-point victory.
The Hawks went cold midway through the second half of the game, as they registered no field goals over the final 12:35, when Brittney Dumas made a layup to put the Hawks up 40-33. Dumas had a double-double in the contest with 13 points and a game high 16 boards.
The lead in the first half see-sawed back-and-forth with five ties and 10 lead changes. A 10-2 run to close the opening half by Hartwick, gave the Hawks a 25-20 lead heading into the locker room.
Oneonta finished the game shooting 34 percent to Hartwick's 25 percent. The Hawks held a slight advantage on the boards 41-36. Both teams took care of the ball, as the final turnover numbers were 25 combined.
Oneonta will be on the road this weekend, as they open its SUNYAC schedule at Buffalo State and Fredonia. The Red Dragons face Buffalo State on Friday night beginning at 6pm and play Fredonia on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
