The SUNY Oneonta women's basketball team defeated Fredonia this afternoon on the road to salvage a weekend split of a pair of SUNYAC contests. The Red Dragons are 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the SUNYAC after its opening conference weekend.

Alyshia Crawford (Oxford/Oxford) and
Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport) and sophomore
Lyteshia Price (Liverpool/Liverpool) paced Oneonta in today's game. All three reached double figures with Crawford leading the trio with 13 points. Schilling and Price each had 10 points. Price added a game high nine boards as well. Crawford and Schilling each collected three steals in the game.
The Red Dragons never trailed in today's game, as they built themselves a 28-18 lead at the break. Oneonta held the host Blue Devils (5-2/1-1 SUNYAC) to 29 percent shooting while they shot 42 percent in the contest. Oneonta forced 23 turnovers including 16 steals that led to 21 points. Oneonta's largest lead was 19 points at 41-22 at the 11:58 mark of the second half on a basket by senior
Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River).
Last night in Buffalo, Oneonta led early 9-5 after Schilling made a pair of free throws. The Red Dragons continued to lead 17-13 on a layup by Price at 11:29. A 16-2 run over the next eight minutes by the Bengals gave them the lead that they would not relinquish. Buffalo State (4-0/1-0 SUNYAC) took a 31-21 lead into halftime.
Buffalo gained its largest lead at 40-28 in the first few minutes of the second half before Oneonta stormed back with an 11-2 run to cut the Bengals lead to 42-39 with 8:29 remaining. Schilling capped the surge with a layup that came off a steal by Mulligan.
Unfortunately, Oneonta would get no closer the rest of the way, as Buffalo State came away with a 58-52 victory.
Schilling scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures. Crawford and junior
Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) added 13 and 12 points respectively. Longto added a team high eight boards and three blocks.
The women will not be in action again until Dec. 28 when they will play Salisbury University as part of a trip to Puerto Rico. The Red Dragons will also face Mount Holyoke College while they are there the next day.
