SUNY Oneonta women's soccer scored two goals in the second half to defeat Brockport 2-0 at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field today to move to 5-3-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the conference.
Oneonta came out strong to start the game. The Golden Eagles (7-2-1/2-1-1 SUNYAC) had some good passing offensively, but the Red Dragons cut off many of Brockport's early opportunities.
Oneonta's keeper,
Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster), and Brockport's, Laura Thompson, made some big saves to keep the score tied heading into halftime.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Red Dragons 13-6 in the second half, 18-12 overall, but could not find the back of the net.
Katie Gildemeyer had an excellent shot at 59:17, but Stark came up with a terrific save. Gildemeyer managed to get off another shot less than two minutes later that bounced off the post.
One minute after Brockport came close to taking the lead, Oneonta scored the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute.
Kayla Ceschini (Miller Place/Miller Place) was able to dribble past a Brockport defender and put the ball in the top right corner past a diving keeper.
The Red Dragons stepped up the pressure on the Golden Eagle defense, but Brockport continued to fight for opportunities in their offensive end.
Sophomore
Jessica Lyden (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills) scored Oneonta's second goal at the 77:55 mark to put the game out of hand. Classmate
Kayla Distin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) broke around the right side and passed across the top to Lyden, who was outside the 18 and ripped a shot past Brockport's keeper.
Stark made seven saves to preserve the shutout.
Oneonta will be off until next weekend when they travel to Plattsburgh on Friday, October 11th.
