The SUNY Oneonta women's swimming and diving opened it's dual meet schedule with a 150.5 to 78.5 victory at Oswego this afternoon swimming some fast times.
Oneonta (1-0) took first in 11 of the 13 events and was first and second in 8 of them. Leading the way for the Red Dragons today was senior
Chandler Shepard (Delhi/Delaware Academy), juniors
Carly Cahill (Troy/Troy) and
Kara Garbarino (Latham/Shaker) and sophomore Lauren Zetnko as each of them won two individual events on the day.
The quartet of Poliachik,
Nicole DiFilippo (Danville,PA/Danville ),
Kelly Ruf (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) and Shepard started the afternoon off by winning the 200 yard Medley in a time of 1:55.04.
Shepard would turn around and win the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle in times of 2:03.13 and 54.92 respectively.
The two diving events, 1 meter and 3 meter were won by Garbarino. In the 1m board, Kara scored 203.30 points while on the 3m she had 193.30 points in the six dives.
Cahill also set a new personal best in the 200 yard IM. She swam the event in a time of 2:20.06. Carly also won the 100 yard backstroke with a 1:03.87 finish.
Zentko swam a time of 10:57.67 in the 1000 yard freestyle to win the event and a 1:01.56 in the 100 yard freestyle to also claim the victory.
Poliachik and
Melissa Erickson (Silver Spring, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) each won an individual event. Poliachik won the 50 yard freestyle in a new personal best time of 25.84 while Erickson won the 500 yard freestyle (5:30.38).
The women will host the College of St. Rose on Friday, Nov. 8th for a meet starting at 4pm.
