The first score for Oneonta came in the 36th minute, as junior
Scott Taglione (/) scored his first goal of the season. The Red Dragons capitalized on a restart after a foul well outside the box near the right sideline. Sophomore
Darren Gomez (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) took the kick for Oneonta and sent a great ball into the box, which was flicked by sophomore
Alex Winiarski (Great Neck/St. Anthony's), which found its way to Taglione, who finished the play with a one-timer off his foot to the back of the net.
Oneonta's second goal came three minutes later on a corner kick. Freshman
Tyler Kirschner (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) sent the ball into the box where sophomore
Zef Saljanin (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) headed the ball towards the goal, which ended up on the foot of sophomore
Jake Sutherland (Syracuse/West Genesee). Sutherland used his body to shield off the defender before turning and shooting the ball into the net.
Taglione added a second goal early in the second half to put Oneonta up by three goals. Once again Oneonta converted a corner kick with Taglione getting his head on a ball sent in from the corner by Winiarski.
Saljanin gave Oneonta a 4-0 lead when he was able to get through the defense on a throw in from the left sideline by freshman
Hans Purtell (Johnson City/Johnson City).
SUNY Potsdam continued to battle and scored its lone goal in the 75th minute on a header by junior Conor Engle, who headed a ball sent into the box by sophomore James Turcott.
