Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's basketball falls at home to New Paltz

A big second half by the visiting Hawks of New Paltz lifted them to a 50-36 victory today over SUNY Oneonta.  The win for the Hawks keeps them undefeated overall at 12-0 while the Red Dragons fall to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in the SUNYAC.

After trailing 18-14 at the break, the Hawks outscored Oneonta 36-18 in the second half to capture the win.  Senior Kahsyrah Bryant scored 20 points to lead New Paltz, who also got 13 points from freshman Shannan Walker.

A three-point basket by Walker at 17:04 of the second half put New Paltz ahead for good at 21-18.  The basket was part of an 11-0 run to open the second half.  The Hawks led by as many as 22 points at 50-28 before Oneonta posted the final eight points of the game.

Oneonta was led by juniors Grace Schilling (Northport/Northport) and Kelly Mulligan (Pearl River/Pearl River), who both scored eight points.

Neither team shot well in the first half, as both squads were below 25 percent.  The largest lead by either team was at the end of the half when Oneonta took an 18-14 lead into the locker room.  The lone bright spot in the opening twenty minutes was a decided rebounding advantage for the Red Dragons.  Oneonta grabbed 30 rebounds to New Paltz's 17 with 13 of Oneonta's total coming off the offensive glass. Sarah Longto (Kingston/Kingston) collected her game high 13 rebounds for the hosts including in the first half eight offensive caroms.

Oneonta will not play again until next Friday when they will travel north to SUNY Potsdam for a SUNYAC game beginning at 6pm.
