The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team had to work overtime, but in the end, the came out on top of visiting SUNY Geneseo 1-0 in SUNYAC action at home today. The hero today was junior
Melissa Guglielmo (Somers/Somers) who was standing in the right place to collect a rebound of the Geneseo keeper before sending a ball that hit underneath the cross bar that deflected down over the goal line to end the match in the 94th minute.
The play started with a crossing pass from the right flank by senior
Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches). When the ball got to the keeper, it deflected off her chest and bounced right out in front where Guglielmo was waiting all alone before chipping the ball over the keeper towards the goal.
Guglielmo, who had a pair of goals in yesterday's win at home versus Brockport, now has four goals on the season to lead Oneonta (6-3-1/3-1 SUNYAC). The Red Dragons have now won five of its last six games as they enter this Tuesday's home game versus Hartwick beginning at 4pm.
Oneonta completed dominated Geneseo (0-8-2/0-3-1 SUNYAC), who remained winless on the season. The Red Dragons finished the contest with 16 shots while its stingy defense allowed only three shots. Oneonta also had five corner kicks to none for the Blue Knights.
Freshman keeper
Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) only had to make one save today for Oneonta as she ran her record to 4-1 overall while lowering her goals against to 0.58. Today's shutout was also the third of the season in five starts.
