Oneonta, N.Y. - The Oneonta State women's soccer team finished off its weekend at the Nazareth Tournament with tie against the host 0-0. The two teams battled through 110 minutes of scoreless action.
Oneonta (0-1-1) and Nazareth (0-0-2) played evenly throughout the entire game. The Red Dragons got off to a quick start applying high pressure and had a couple good opportunities to score but were unable to find the back of the net. Senior
Lindsey Doxtader (Oneonta/Oneonta) had one of Oneonta's best chances when her right footed shot from 25 yards out hit the crossbar and went straight down but didn't cross the goal line. Doxtader created a second opportunity with about five minutes left in the first half, but
Alaina Greco (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa), who had finished it, was called offsides.
Nazareth came out with gusto in the second half and the momentum swung their way for a the first portion of the half. The Golden Flyers' best chance came about midway through the second half when Amanda Sudore was able to get around the defender and put a flank service into the box. Freshmen goalkeeper,
Rori Stark (Brewster/Brewster), came up huge with a punch of the ball in traffic to clear and relieve pressure.
Both overtime periods were evenly played with each team creating one good scoring chance. Oneonta's came in the first when senior
Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) played a low driven cross to the near post that
Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was able to get her foot on it, but a Nazareth blocked the shot to extend the game. Nazareth's came in the second OT when Stark came out of her box and misplayed a ball that fell to the feet of Kristina McCann. McCann tried to one time the ball toward the goal, but
Krystal Scott (Centereach/Newfield) recovered back to the goal and headed it off the line to preserve the tie.
Nazareth had 13 shots to Oneonta's 12. The Red Dragons held an advantage in corner kicks 9-2. Stark made 5 saves to earn her first collegiate shutout, while her counterpart, Abbie Carey, made 4.
On Friday, Oneonta dropped it's season opener to RIT by a score of 2-0.
Oneonta is in action again this coming Wednesday when they host Williams College. The start of the game is 3 p.m.
