POTSDAM, N.Y.—The Oneonta State men's lacrosse team snapped its six-game losing streak today with its 14-11 road win versus SUNY Potsdam. The Red Dragons are now 3-8 overall while picking up its first SUNYAC win of the season to move to 1-2 in conference play.
Oneonta fell behind 4-0 before battling back to pull within 5-3 by the end of the opening quarter. Sophomore Daniel Stern scored two of his team high four goals in the first period of play. Stern finished the contest with six points as he also added a pair of assists.
The two teams played even in the second quarter and a goal by Stern with just over one minute to play in the period, brought Oneonta back to within a pair of goals at 8-6 entering halftime.
A pair of goals in the early going of period three by Potsdam gave them a four-goal advantage at 10-6.
Oneonta stormed back and seized the momentum of the game outscoring the Bears 5-1 over the final 10 minutes to tie the score at 11-11 entering the final period.
Solid defense and goalkeeping along with timely scoring allowed the Red Dragons to put three goals on the scoreboard in the fourth period. Stern had a goal and an assist while senior Blair Hanson and junior John DeOrdio each tallied a goal for Oneonta.
Senior Chris Miles made 13 saves today to pick up the win in goal. Junior Jimmy van de Veerdonk won 21-of-28 face offs while collecting 13 ground balls.
Oneonta will finally return home this Wednesday when they face SUNY Geneseo beginning at 4pm.
