Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse comeback falls short vs. SUNY Geneseo

Red Dragons drop to 1-3 in the SUNYAC

The Oneonta State men's lacrosse team made a late run, but fell short today to visiting SUNY Geneseo 13-9 in SUNYAC men's action.  Sophomore Daniel Stern and junior Jimmy van de Veerdonk had three points each to lead the offense.

Geneseo (2-7/2-1 SUNYAC) got things started quickly, scoring just eight seconds into the contest.  Freshman Steve Cregan scored the first of his team high four goals off an assist from junior Frank DiSanti.

Shane Kelly tied the score four minutes later unassisted.  The two teams then exchanged a pair of goals at a repaid rate with Stern scoring to end the pace and tie the game at 3-3.  Geneseo scored a pair to take a 5-3 lead heading into the second period.

Both teams scored two goals each in the second period.  Cregan had a goal and assist for the Blue Knights, who took a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Geneseo stretched its lead during the third period, outscoring Oneonta 6-1 to gain a 13-6 lead at the end of the period.  Cregan had one goal and two assists while James Purpura added a goal and an assist for Geneseo.

Oneonta scored three unanswered goals to start the fourth period to cut Geneseo's lead to 13-9.  Alex Haffner, van de Veerdonk and Anthony Laureano each registered a goal.  Unfortunately that would be it for the Red Dragons in the game as Geneseo held Oneonta scoreless over the remaining seven minutes of the game to take the win.

Oneonta will be back in action this Saturday afternoon when they host Oswego for a SUNYAC contest beginning at 2:30pm.
