The Oneonta State men's basketball team dropped a pair of road games this weekend at Brockport and Geneseo.  The Red Dragons fell last night to Brockport 85-62 while coming out on the short end of a 67-57 score today versus Geneseo.  The men are now 2-19 overall and 1-13 in the SUNYAC, but are still in the hunt for the eighth spot in the SUNYAC tournament.

In today's game versus Geneseo (10-10/8-5 SUNYAC), junior Nick Sarchioto (Duanesburg/Bishop Gibbons) scored a collegiate career high 21 points to lead Oneonta.  The game saw three ties and 10 lead changes, but in the end, it was Geneseo who had a big advantage in the paint, outscoring the Red Dragons 38-16.  Both teams shot 43 percent from the floor in the contest.  The Blue Knights did hold a 15-4 advantage in free throws, which proved huge in the end as Geneseo made 7-of-8 down the stretch.

Oneonta's last lead came right at the beginning of the second half when Alby Skrelji (Hastings on Hudson/Hastings) made a jump shot to give them a 29-28 lead.  The Red Dragons got as close as two points at 47-45 on a jumper by Sarchioto with 7:30 remaining in the game.

Last night versus Brockport, Oneonta had three players in double figures led by a season high 14 points by junior Dan McLaren (Troy/Troy).  Sophomore Dan Lee (Ballston Lake/Shenendehowa) and freshman Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) each added 11 points.

Oneonta shot only 36 percent including 3-of-17 from three-point range while turning the ball over 22 times.  They did hit 23-of-27 from the charity stripe, but the Brockport bench outscored Oneonta's 44-22.

Oneonta will host Oswego, the top team in the SUNYAC, this Friday night beginning at 8pm.
