Red Dragons fall to New Paltz in season finale

Junior Shalik Jenkins hit a runner with 1.3 seconds remaining in the game to lift visiting New Paltz to a 66-64 win tonight versus Oneonta State. The Red Dragons season comes to an end with a final record of 3-22 overall while New Paltz (9-16/6-12) season will continue next Tuesday night with a first round SUNYAC tournament game on the road.

Oneonta had the ball with 31 seconds to go and point guard Frankie Kelly (Brewster/Kennedy Catholic) with the ball in his hands. Kelly kept the ball alive until the clock had 10 seconds left before making a move to the basket. He didn't convert on the layup and the rebound was awarded to New Paltz.

Kelly tied his season high of 21 points in leading three players in double figures for Oneonta. He also added five assists and four steals.

Kelly gave Oneonta a 43-42 lead when he made a jumper at the 14:47 mark of the second half. The Red Dragons added back-to-back layups to increase its lead to 47-42.

A pair of free throws gave the Hawks a six point lead at 57-51 with 7:32 remaining.

Oneonta didn't quit and a three-point basket by sophomore Kevin Donohue tied the score again at 62 apiece at the 2:42 mark.

The last tie came at 64-64 when Oneonta junior Cameron Boyden (Vestal/Vestal) made a layup. Boyden finished the game with 11 points.
