Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer dominates SUNY Potsdam

The SUNY Oneonta women's soccer team flexed its muscle this afternoon in a 4-0 shutout victory against visiting SUNY Potsdam in SUNYAC action.  The win for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight and seventh in its last eight contests.  Oneonta is now 8-3-1 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC after the win while the Bears fall to 2-10 overall and remain winless in the conference at 0-4.

Junior Karly DeSimone (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and junior Kayla Brantmeyer (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) led the attack for Oneonta, which amassed 32 shots in the contest.  DeSimone scored a pair of goals; both assisted by Brantmeyer, in leading the Red Dragons to the shutout.  DeSimone's first goal came in the second minute of play when she headed a throw in from Brantmeyer that found its way to the back of the goal.  The goal was the only one of the first half.

Junior Alaina Greco (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) gave Oneonta a two-goal lead in the 54th minute when she registered an unassisted goal.  Greco had the ball inside the box off to the left and measured a shot that flew over the Potsdam goalie into the net.

Three minutes later DeSimone made the score 3-0 when she redirected a cross from Brantmeyer, who was on the right flank.

The final tally for Oneonta today came from freshman Liz Lasota (Cutchogue/Mattituck), who scored her first collegiate goal in the final minute of regulation.  The assist came from classmate Caitlyn LaPier (Chazy/Chazy), who crossed a ball in from the left flank that Lasota volleyed with her left foot over the goalie.

All three Oneonta goalkeepers shared in the shutout today for the Red Dragons.  Starter Kelley Murphy (Albany/Colonie Central) made two saves in the first half and picked up her sixth win of the season.

Oneonta will be home again tomorrow at 1pm when they host Plattsburgh.
